My first post, review of New super mario bros.

Hello! Welcome to my blog. It is devoted to everything videogames. Reviews, new releases, you name it! I'm going to start with a simple review of New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS.

First of all, this game pays homage to all those other 2-D Mario platformers out there. For example, the concept of storing an extra powerup for later use came from Super Mario World. The P-Block, which turns coins into blocks and vice-versa, came from Super Mario Bros 3.

Anyways, it starts out with you as Mario, walking with the princess, she gets kidnapped, blah, blah blah. You go through 8 worlds (the main path is only 6) and at the world 8 castle, you beat Bowser, rescue the princess, credits roll, the end.

BUT! If you're one of those retro gamers out there, there are still a few new things for you in this game that make it worthwile. For example, several AWESOME new powerups:

  1. The Super Huge mushroom: makes you so big, the level crumbles beneath your feet. BEHOLD!

  2. The Blue Shell: if you hold the run button, you start spinning like a shell, devastating all opposition in your path. WATCH OUT!

  3. The tiny blue mushroom: makes you so wimpy and tiny, you need to ground pound on a goomba to kill it! IN MOST CASES, THIS "POWERUP" COMPLETELY SUCKS!!!
Not to mention a few new enemies.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! The MINIGAMES!!!

Though I find some of them pretty hard, they are, regardless of difficulty, downright ADDICTING! I have spent 3 hours playing just minigames, nonstop! One of them, called "Hide and Boo Seek", makes you rub the touch screen to find all the boos before the 3 seconds runs out. It is HARD!!! Most of these minigames are ripped off of Super Mario 64 DS. However, there are a few original ones.

Well, the review is done, so it's time to give this game a score.

9 out of 10.

Why? Because of all the cool features of this game. It isn't a 10 out of 10 because of how easy it is for gamers like me. But if you're a starting gamer on the DS, I recommend you buy this game RIGHT NOW. It is especially good for beginners, but all gamers I think will enjoy this game. Regardless of the fact it came out in 2006. It is still, I think, one of the best 2-D platformers on the DS.
